Mr Stoneham started his teaching career as a tutor in The University of Sydney’s English department. He taught English at Ascham School and Sydney Grammar in Australia, and at Milton Academy in Boston and Marlborough College in the UK. He gained his first Head of English position in 1986 at Emanuel School in Randwick and led it through to full accreditation with the Board of Studies as Deputy Headmaster and Acting Headmaster.  In 2000, on the strength of his English teaching, he was asked to apply for the position of Head of English at Marlborough College - a rare phenomenon for an Australian.

He has been the Dean of Studies at Cranbrook in Sydney and returned to Emanuel School in 2001 as part of a team with the ex-Headmaster of Cranbrook to rescue the school from imminent closure. Within four years the school had been “saved” and currently is in an expansion mode.

Mr Stoneham has experience in the education of international students, having been the founding Principal of Sydney Interlink College, and later the founding Principal of Wollongong International College (Sydney Campus) – a part of the university of Wollongong. He was CEO of Alpha Beta Colleges.

He has an Honours Bachelors degree and an Honours Masters degree from Sydney University. He has a Certificate in Gifted Education from the University of NSW, having gained a High Distinction and registered to study for a PhD in that field. He does some teaching within the Education faculty of Notre Dame University, preparing new teachers for the reality of schools and training young English teachers.

Mr Stoneham has seen many appraisal models internationally, and has developed appraisal models for various schools. In 2007, he formed Stoneham Education Consulting specializing in appraisal, education IT infrastructures and management/leadership courses for school and business middle management.
